• You smell rotten eggs

  Leave the house immediately. Do not flip a light switch, do not use your phone indoors, do not start a car in an attached garage. Call 911 and the gas utility from outside. Once the line is made safe, we make the repair.

• Adding a gas appliance

  Range, dryer, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, patio heater or pool heater. Each needs a properly sized run and its own shutoff at the appliance.

• A new appliance underperforms

  A range with weak burners or a dryer taking two cycles often means the line cannot deliver the BTU the appliance calls for — an undersized run rather than a defective appliance.

• Converting to tankless

  Tankless water heaters call for far more BTU than the tank they replace. Existing piping frequently needs upsizing, and skipping that is how a new tankless unit throws error codes.

• Standby generator installation

  Generators have real gas demand and need a properly sized dedicated run. This is coordinated work with your electrician, and we handle the gas side.

• Old or corroded piping

  Rust at threaded joints, a line running through a damp crawl space, or piping disturbed by settling or excavation. Worth inspecting and pressure testing rather than assuming.

1. 1. Load calculation

   Every appliance on the system, its BTU demand, the length of each run, and the number of fittings. That produces the required pipe size. Undersized gas piping is the single most common defect we find in existing work.

2. 2. Permit before we start

   Gas line work is permitted through the Village and inspected. We pull it, and we itemize the fee. A contractor offering to skip the permit is telling you something important about how they work.

3. 3. Plan the route

   Shortest practical run, properly supported, protected where it passes through framing, and with an accessible shutoff at each appliance. Nothing gets buried where it cannot be inspected or serviced.

4. 4. Install with the right material

   Black iron for most interior runs, correctly rated flexible connectors at appliances, and appropriately sleeved and protected pipe for exterior and underground runs to a grill or fire pit.

5. 5. Pressure test

   The system is capped and pressurized, then held and monitored. It has to hold — no drop at all. Only then does anything get connected.

6. 6. Inspection, then commissioning

   Village inspection, then we connect appliances, purge air from the line, check every joint with a leak detection solution, and verify each appliance fires and burns correctly.

Distance from the meter or an existing line

A range ten feet from an existing run is a modest job. A fire pit eighty feet across a finished basement and out under a patio is not.

Pipe size required

Larger diameter costs more in material and is harder to route. High-BTU appliances like tankless heaters and generators drive size up.

Access along the route

Open basement joists are ideal. Finished ceilings, tight crawl spaces, or a route that must cross a slab all add labor.

Interior or exterior

Exterior and underground runs need appropriate materials, protection, and correct burial depth, plus restoration of anything we dig through.

Number of drops

An outdoor kitchen with a grill, a side burner and a fire feature is several terminations, each with its own shutoff.

Permit and inspection

Always included, always itemized. Non-negotiable on gas work.
